About the service

This service is for women with abnormal or inadequate smears. It is a part of the NHS cervical screening programme which helps to reduce the number of women developing invasive cervical cancers.

Following an abnormal smear result, you may be referred for a colposcopy examination so that the colposcopist can look at the cervix under magnification, identify any problem and treat it.

Our clinic is staffed by a female Consultant (Miss Kate Aston), an Associate Specialist (Miss Hilary Eddowes) and a colposcopy nurse (Mrs Cally Leland). In some clinics there may also be an experienced doctor undergoing further training in colposcopy.

Appointments are arranged via a GP referral and we offer treatment at your first visit if appropriate. You are welcome to bring a friend, relative or partner to the colposcopy. A leaflet that details the procedure is sent with the appointment letter.

Current waiting time for colposcopy appointments is 2-4 weeks.

Clinic times:

Thursdays 8.45am – 12.00pm Miss Kate Aston
