Other interests
Dr Frank Murphy is a consultant gastroenterologist with special interest in hepatobiliary disease, inflammatory bowel disease and oesophageal reflux disease. He was appointed to RHCH in July 2004.
Brought up in London, Dr Murphy graduated in Medicine from Southampton University and obtained MRCP in 1996. He specialised in gastroenterology as a registrar and continued his training in the Wessex region for 7 years. He undertook a PhD funded by a Medical Research Council clinical training fellowship studying liver fibrosis and cirrhosis. He also developed an interest in therapeutic endoscopy for acute gastrointestinal bleeding and ERCP.
Dr Murphy has research interests in hepatobiliary disease, fatty liver, treatments for liver fibrosis and Barrett’s oesophagus. He has published and presented nationally and internationally in these areas.
He is a reviewer for a number of journals and has taught on a number of courses.
Married with three children, Dr Murphy enjoys sailing, skiing and windsurfing.
