Visiting

Visiting Hours

Visiting hours are generally between 2:00pm and 4.00pm and again between 6:00pm and 8:00pm.

Orthopaedic visiting times are 2pm - 3pm and 6.30pm - 7.30pm.

In maternity the mothers’ own children may visit, but other children are not permitted to visit within the maternity unit.

Individual wards may have restrictions according to the needs of the patients. It may be possible to visit outside normal hours if necessary but please check with the ward staff.

Visiting if you are feeling unwell

Over the winter months we traditionally see an increase in illnesses related to diarrhoea and vomiting, such as Norovirus, which is the most common stomach bug in the UK and otherwise known as the winter vomiting bug.

For most people, diarrhoea and vomiting can be safely managed at home by drinking plenty of fluids to remain hydrated and speed the infection through the system. Symptoms should settle within 48 hours.

For some of our patients, though, the virus can be more serious, and although Hampshire Hospitals has robust methods for managing outbreaks of this illness (including things like restricting visiting hours and deep cleaning), we would like to prevent the bugs getting into the hospital in the first place if possible.

You can help us by not visiting if you have experienced diarrhoea or vomiting in the last 48 hours. Please contact ward staff if you are unwell and unsure if you should visit.

If you are experiencing diarrhoea and vomiting it is far better to stay out of hospital, manage your symptoms and limit your contact with other people, particularly the elderly and babies. If symptoms worsen or you are worried, contact NHS Direct (08 45 46 47) or your GP.  Our Emergency Departments are only for those patients who require urgent and emergency medical attention.
